The Old Market Hall has served customers since 1889. They sell a wide range of fine cheeses, fish, seafood, meat, vegetables, fruit and baked goods as well as spices, coffees and teas. This is a perfect place to taste different Finnish delicacies, such as cold-smoked salmon, rye bread or Karelian pies. Here you can also purchase everything you need for a picnic on the nearby islands of Suomenlinna, which can be reached by ferry from the Market Square.

My top Helsinki tip is to go sauna. For tourists I recommend Löyly Sauna, which is pretty much in the heart of the city at address Hernesaarenranta 4. You can go sauna anytime, winter or summer, and at Löyly you can also take a dip in the sea. Besides its beautiful location, Löyly also has a restaurant and outdoor terraces, and the surrounding area is great for a seaside stroll. Not surprisingly, Time Magazine chose Löyly as one of the World’s 100 Greatest Places in 2018.

For an authentic Helsinki experience you should definitely go for a walk down Korkeavuorenkatu Street, start to finish. Among other things, it's home to Italian restaurant and coffee place Ventuno as well as cocktail bar Goldfish, which is located right next to the Design Museum. Restaurant Maxim is a great place for lunch for the nostalgically inclined and the nearby Cafe Success serves the best cinnamon buns with a tinge of Parisian atmosphere. You’ll also find unique boutiques like Lilly, Valkoinen Elefantti and Annabella, with their super-nice clothes and jewellery.

One of my absolute favourites about British culture is Afternoon Tea. As reflected in the name, it’s that sumptuous late afternoon or early evening snack before dinner, with its delicious array of sweet and savoury delights. You can now enjoy this bit of Britishness at three of our hotels – Hotel Kämp, Hotel St. George and Hotel Haven. Each offers its own unique twist to this age-long tradition, complete with accompanying drinks and servings.
