A great walk around south Helsinki starts from Erottaja

A great way to experience Helsinki architecture and design is to take an afternoon walk starting from Erottaja. Just continue around the corner down Uudenmaankatu Street. If the weather's good, you can pick up some sushi and enjoy a picnic at the end of the street in Sinebrychoff park. Then continue through Albertinkatu to Lönnrotinkatu and return to Old Church Park. All the time, remember to check the shop windows and don’t forget to look up to see all the versatile architecture.

Mirkka Metsola

Fashion Designer

Fashion designer Mirkka Metsola's favourite shop in Helsinki

Garageland in Viiskulma is one of the most unique clothing stores in Finland. While you're in the neighbourhood I suggest you also visit antique shop Göta's World, which is located nearby on Tarkkampujankatu 4.

Garden is a unique fashion oasis, concept store and event venue in central Helsinki. In this light-filled and inspiring space you can acquaint yourself with the hottest names and new talents in Finnish fashion. In addition to compellingly curated fashion, Garden hosts natural cosmetics store Jolie, concept book store Tre Gallery & Books, as well as three restaurants. The space also houses a variety of events such as exhibitions, discussion events and guided tours into the world of Finnish fashion.

In Helsinki you are always close to nature

Helsinki is one of the few capital cities in the world where you are close to nature. It takes only half an hour to get to to lush, pristine forests. It’s easy to get around the city by bike and the metro is also a convenient way to get to nature. My favourite spots are the trails around Central Park, in Paloheinä and Pitkäkoski, as well as the wonderful trails by the sea in East Helsinki, in Laajasalo and Vuosaari. Nuuksio National Park, which is a bit further off, is an absolute gem.

Toscanini's – dine with the family

I have been visiting restaurant Toscanini since 2005 with friends and family. Each time the food and the service has put a smile on my face. Marko Koskinen, the new executive chef, has created a very delicious summer menu that is available June 6 onwards. You know where to find me this summer!
